Ukraine ended Wales’s hopes of qualifying for the 2015 Canada World Cup on Wednesday night with a 1-0 victory while Scotland will have to settle for the play-offs after losing 2-0 to Sweden.
Wales needed to beat their opponents to finish above them in Group Six and reach the play-offs but Tetyana Romanenko’s 61st minute goal ended any hope of them reaching Canada next year.
Scotland meanwhile finished second after the defeat sealed the top spot for Sweden. They will now enter the play-offs where they could meet Italy, the Netherlands or Ukraine.
England ended their qualifying campaign with a 100 per cent record after beating Montenegro by double figures.
Eni Aluko grabbed a hat-trick and finished the group stages scoring 52 goals and conceding just one.
