Rotherham student tackles Ed Miliband on child sexual abuse scandal

A ROTHERHAM student prompted an apology from Labour leader Ed Miliband yesterday over the town council’s failure to prevent a massive child sex slavery scandal.

Mr Miliband said he “deeply regretted” what had happened.

“Lots and lots of young people were terribly let down, including by Labour representatives,” he said.

“We’ve got to learn the lessons of it as a party — and we’ve taken some action in terms of some of the people who were there at the time.”

The Labour leader was answering a student during a Q&A session at Sheffield Hallam University who demanded to know: “How can my generation trust your party to ensure child safety at a national level when a Labour council in Rotherham couldn’t even cope?”
