Sport in Brief: 14/7/2014

RUGBY: London Broncos’ relegation from the First Utility Super League ends an unbroken 19-year stay in the top flight, but comes as little surprise.

Installed as clear favourites to drop into the Kingstone Press Championship back in February, the Broncos’ fate was confirmed on Sunday when they lost 72-12 at Warrington, extending their winless run to 20 games with seven games left.

FOOTBALL: Arjen Robben has ruled out the possibility of joining Manchester United.

Robben has been linked with United ever since it was announced that Louis van Gaal would be taking over at Old Trafford.

“I have a special bond with him. He is the most important coach in my career,” Robben said.

“(Moving to United) is not an option though. I will stay at Bayern Munich.”

ATHLETICS: Great Britain enjoyed a successful day as they claimed four golds, two silvers and four bronze medals at the Rowing World Cup in Lucerne yesterday.

After reaching an impressive 14 finals, Britain recorded wins in the men’s four, the men’s quadruple sculls, the women’s pair and the lightweight women’s double sculls.
