O’Driscoll takes charge of U-19s

Football: Former Doncaster and Nottingham Forest boss Sean O’Driscoll was yesterday appointed the new England Under-19s national head coach.

O’Driscoll has a wealth of experience at management level, most notably in the Championship, but has been without a post since leaving Bristol City in 2013.

“I am delighted to join the FA as national coach of the U-19s team. It gives me a fantastic opportunity to help develop players in this country,” he said.

Berra ruled out of Germany clash

Football: Ipswich’s Christophe Berra yesterday pulled out of the Scotland squad to face world champions Germany on Sunday after sustaining a knee injury.

The former Hearts and Wolves defender suffered the injury in the Tractor Boys’ 1-1 draw at Derby on Saturday and will now miss Scotland’s opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Dortmund.

Gordon Strachan has called up Aberdeen’s Mark Reynolds as cover.

Bell to miss India

Cricket: Ian Bell was yesterday ruled out of the final one-day international against India due to a broken toe sustained in practice before Tuesday’s defeat.

No replacement will be named for tomorrow’s game.
