TORY London Assembly members will today back a dangerous motion to lock striking firefighters out of their stations.
Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson is proposing the inflammatory move at today’s London Fire Authority meeting on behalf of London Mayor Boris Johnson.
If agreed, it will mean firefighters who strike for short periods — in order to minimise risk and disruption to the public — are prevented from returning to work that day.
Labour assembly member Fiona Twycross accused the Tories of “playing politics with Londoners’ lives” and will lead opposition to the motion today.
She said: “Stopping firefighters from returning to work after short strikes puts political arguments about finances ahead of the safety of Londoners. “Providing an inferior service when you have experienced and willing firefighters on hand is reckless.
“Cutting their pay and starving firefighters back to work isn’t the solution.”
