CUBAN ambassador Teresita Vicente thanked the STUC and Scottish Cuba Solidarity Campaign yesterday for their support in the long but successful fight to free the Miami Five — issuing a rallying call: “Let’s go for the blockade now!”
Praising Scottish efforts to have the five Cuban anti-terrorists freed from US imprisonment, Ms Vicente told delegates at the STUC congress: “You made it possible to have our Five back in Cuba. They are now back in their homeland and with their families.
“But we must not forget the blockade is still in force. The US goverment recognises its policies have failed — but that doesn’t mean we are going to normalise just like that.”
She stated that “the blockade is a group of different laws enacted in different times and for the blockade to end needs decisions of Congress.”
The ambassador called on US President Barack Obama to use executive orders to dismantle the blockade.
