Women's FA Cup: County head into final with one keeper

NOTTS COUNTY were furious with the Football Association on Monday night for refusing the club permission to sign an emergency goalkeeper for Saturday’s Women’s FA Cup final.

Carly Telford made her return over the weekend against Arsenal after 11 weeks on the sidelines with a dislocated shoulder.

And with the 28-year-old County’s only eligible goalkeeper to face Chelsea, the club fear that should the shoulder become reinjured in training or during the match, an outfield player will be forced to step in.

“Sometimes common sense has to kick in,” said chief executive Luke Negus-Hill.

“It could — touch wood it won’t — end up with an outfield player being in goal.”

Telford picked up her injury at the World Cup with County outraged that “Carly was injured with England and we are the ones that suffer.”
