Chelsea Ladies came from a goal down to win 2-1 thanks to a late Jackie Groenen goal which leaves them three points behind leaders Birmingham.
It was the away side who took the lead when Natasha Flint was given far too much time in the Chelsea half and spotted Marie Hourihan off her line.
The City midfielder then produced a sublime chip, leaving the goalkeeper no chance and put her side a goal up after 30 minutes.
Chelsea then pushed for a quick equaliser but Karen Bardsley was alert to keep the score at 1-0.
City and England were dealt a huge blow when captain Steph Houghton limped off five minutes before the break to be replaced by Chel Nightingale.
Fifteen minutes into the second half and Chelsea were level.
Captain Katie Chapman equalised with a superb diving header and the goal set up a thrilling end-to-end final half an hour.
And the home side completed a dramatic turn-around in the 90th minute when Groenen capitalised on a City mistake.
The Citizen’s defence dallied on the ball on the halfway line and the forward pounced, nicking the ball off the defender.
Hourihan stood between her and the goal and the Belgian calmly rounded the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net and secure the three points.
