A CONFECTIONARY firm which makes Mint Humbugs has been slammed by workers for refusing them a decent pay rise.
The city of York is known for its confectionary producers and is the base for US-owned company Tangerine, which makes Barratt Sherbert Fountains, Butterkist Popcorn, Princess Marshmallows and Mint Humbugs.
Members of general union GMB want a pay rise, but rejected a company proposal of just 1 per cent.
The company has attacked working conditions — even removing the warehouse radio.
The workers will stage a 24-hour stoppage on November 8, followed by more 24-hour strikes.
GMB organiser Ben Kirkham said: “We have witnessed a long list of attacks on paid breaks and hand-washing time, reduced pension contributions, reduced training money and bonus payments pulled — the list really is endless.”
