England wrapped up victory in their Twenty20 series against Pakistan with a match to spare yesterday after a decent bowling and fielding performance secured them a comfortable 35-run win at Southampton’s Ageas Bowl.

Having won the toss and opted to bat, the hosts were not as impressive at the crease as they had been in Sunday’s opening T20 contest in Bristol, where their highest-ever total of 187 for five had steered them to a 68-run triumph.

This time England, with Fran Wilson top-scoring on 43 not out, could only manage 138 for seven, giving their opponents hope.

But Pakistan — for whom Sadia Yousuf and captain Bismah Maroof had taken two for 31 and two for 19 respectively — struggled to get going in reply, losing early wickets to find themselves at one for one and seven for two, and eventually being bowled out for 103.

There were two wickets apiece for Natalie Sciver (two for 16) Jenny Gunn (two for seven) and Sophie Ecclestone (two for 26), with Pakistan’s greatest resistance coming from Javeria Khan (23).

The final T20 match is tomorrow at Chelmsford as Heather Knight, still undefeated as England captain, and her side look to match their efforts in the one-day internationals by completing another 3-0 whitewash.
