Some sporty tidbits for the fans

England finish third in Sevens
Rugby: England finished third in the opening round of the Sevens World Series on the Gold Coast after losing to eventual winners Fiji in the semi-finals.
Simon Amor’s men began the final day with a stunning 31-7 rout of defending champions New Zealand, with captain Phil Burgess scoring two tries and others coming from Alex Gray, Christian Lewis-Pratt and Dan Norton.
But their win over the All Blacks — the biggest since 2003 — couldn’t prevent a 48-7 loss to Fiji.

Lennon takes on vacant role at Bolton
Football: Bolton yesterday appointed former Celtic boss Neil Lennon as their new manager.
The 43-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving the Scottish champions at the end of last season, replaces Dougie Freedman, who left Wanderers by mutual consent at the beginning of the month.
Bolton also announced that Johan Mjallby and Garry Parker will join Lennon at the club.

Uruguay ready for England 2015
Rugby: Uruguay scrum-half Agustin Ormaechea turned his thoughts to causing an upset in the 2015 World Cup yesterday, after helping his side clinch the last qualifying spot.
The South Americans join Australia, Wales, Fiji and hosts England in Pool A after triumphing over Russia in the two-game final qualifying round.
“We will go to England 2015 to enjoy what is the biggest tournament in the world,” Ormaechea said.

Courtois defends Blues over injury
Football: Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has defended Chelsea’s handling of his head injury during the game against Arsenal.
The Belgium international suffered the blow in a collision with Alexis Sanchez, which left him dizzy and bleeding from one ear.
“The doctor of Chelsea did well, I think,” Courtois said. “She asked me the questions she needed to ask and I could repeat immediately so I was feeling well and didn’t have to come off.”
