NASUWT deputy general secretary Dr Patrick Roach was re-elected to the governing body of the world’s largest federation of trade unions this weekend.
Mr Roach retained his open seat on the executive board of Education International in a vote at its world congress in Ottawa, Canada.
Education International represents 32 million education employees in 170 countries and territories.
Mr Roach promised to “work tirelessly” to “advance the professional status and rights of teachers and educators in order to secure quality education for all.”
NASUWT delegates also raised issues on education rights for refugees, opposing TTIP, diversity as well as an emergency resolution on teacher trade unionists in Iran.
“Once more the NASUWT has demonstrated the importance of working with teacher trade unions across the globe in order to campaign for democracy, equality, social justice and human rights in education,” said general secretary Chris Keates.
