Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent claimed yesterday that the Real Madrid star has been offered “more than £85 million” per season to move to the Chinese Super League.
But Ronaldo isn’t going anywhere.
In what is another sign that Chinese football clubs have more money than they know what do with, an unnamed team has launched an audacious bid to sign the 2016 world player of the year.
In figures that dwarf Carlos Tevez’s move to Shanghai Shenhua on Thursday, the offer on the table would have seen Ronaldo earn £175 a minute, £1.7m a day and a staggering £7.1m a month.
Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes said that it is “normal” that these offers are coming in but it is a waste of time.
“He’s the best player in the world and the best of all time. More than 100 [million euros].
“Cristiano is happy at Real Madrid. China is a new market which could buy some players. But for Cristiano it’s impossible.
“He’s going to continue playing at Real Madrid. Money is not everything in life.”
