Lloyds staff join the fight for a living wage

WHILE the government uses billions of taxpayers’ cash invested in Lloyds bank to bribe voters, security workers and other staff at the bank are campaigning for the living wage.

Lloyds used contractor Mitie for security, reception and post room work.

General union GMB is campaigning for the living wage for 600 staff based in Gloucester, Cardiff, Birmingham,

Newport, Swansea, Leeds, Sheffield, Halifax, Chester, Warrington, Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The living wage is £7.85 an hour outside London and £9.15 in the capital.

GMB national officer Jude Brimble said: “Meetings have been stalled for several months. The talks have come to a standstill because of the bank’s refusal to commit to providing the funds to ensure these staff are paid a living wage.

“It is astounding that Lloyds Banking Group is refusing to stump up the money to pay decent wages to these workers.”

More talks are planned for April 29.
