FLOOD alerts were issued across England and Wales yesterday after some parts saw more than a fortnight’s normal rainfall in just 24 hours.
Forecasters predict more is to come, with heavy thundery downpours set to sweep the country.
Traffic disruption is possible as low pressure moves west across England, the Met Office said, after the south-west and Wales saw a day of dismal weather.
A yellow warning for rain remained in place across the south of England last night and the Environment Agency has issued 10 flood alerts, five in the south-west and five in Wales.
“We could see another 20mm of rain, so for a lot of areas that is a third of a month’s rain,” said a Met Office spokesman.
“There is 40mm to 60mm possible in some places.”
More rain is forecast in the south today and tomorrow, before the weather improves going into the bank holiday weekend.
