Rally called to oppose former EDL hardliners in Stockton

ANTI-FASCIST and anti-racist campaigners will take to the streets of Stockton, Teesside, today in opposition to English Defence League breakaway group North East Infidels and the Scottish Defence League.

The two racist organisations are to demonstrate in Stockton this afternoon.

The counter-demonstration is being organised through an umbrella group, Teesside Solidarity Movement (TSM), with support from Teesside Against Racism, Islamophobia and Fascism and Teesside People’s Assembly.

TSM said in a statement: “They are intent on whipping up hostility towards the local Muslim community.

“There’s no place for racists, fascists or their allies in Teesside’s multiracial, multicultural and multifaith community.

The anti-fascists will assemble at 12.30pm outside the Old Town Hall on Stockton High Street.

Teesside Peoples’ Assembly will also be involved in demonstrations on Budget day, July 8, against Chancellor George Osborne’s next attack on the poor, disabled and public services.
