THE director of a firm implementing the Tories’ welfare-to-work scheme has said he supports sanctioning single parents and disabled people.
Working Links boss Nicholas Young told the Scottish Parliament welfare reform committee that benefit sanctions had had a “positive impact over a number of years.”
His firm has a £167 million contract to find jobs for people on the DWP’s Work Programme.
His comments were at odds with those made by director of DWP contractor Ingeus, who stated that sanctions were a “disincentive” to building trust.
SNP MSP Joan McAlpine criticised Mr Young’s claims, who said that people were “three times as likely to be sanctioned than find a job.”
