TV stars back TUC pay campaign

RUSSELL BRAND, Andy Parsons and Amy Lame were among the household names backing the TUC’s Britain Needs a Pay Rise protest on Saturday.

Comedian Mr Parsons and performer Ms Lame played compere for the rally on behalf of actors’ union Equity, while Mr Brand helped to dish out union flags and flyers to the crowds.

Mr Parsons told them: “If you can’t live off what you’re earning, your boss isn’t paying you, yeah, you’re paying to work for your boss.”

The Mock the Week star was among a strong delegation of Equity members, including dozens of young performers, who marched behind their union’s banner.

Young member’s rep Nicola Hawkins told the rally how half of Equity members earn less than £5000-a-year from their industry.

“It is true that a very small minority of performers earn a lot of money. But most of us like workers up and down the country are struggling to make ends meet.”
