The Communication Workers Union (CWU) welcomed the announcement yesterday that telecoms giant BT will create 1,000 new apprenticeships and graduate jobs this year.
Jobs ranging from business analysis to software development will be spread across the country including London, Glasgow, Belfast, Cardiff, Newcastle, Manchester and Leeds.
BT will also provide up to 1,000 vocational training and work experience placements for unemployed youngsters.
The company said that some new recruits would begin new degree apprenticeships from September, allowing them to complete full honours degrees while working.
Many of the apprentices and graduates will be based at
BT’s research site near Ipswich.
“CWU warmly welcomes today’s announcement that BT is creating a further 1,000 new apprenticeships and graduate jobs,” said CWU deputy general secretary Andy Kerr.
“This is further evidence of BT’s commitment to UK job creation — something the union has been in conversation with the company regarding.”
