‘No offer was made for Ched Evans,’ say Oldham

Oldham yesterday denied offering convicted rapist Ched Evans a route back into football.

Reports on Sunday said that the League One club had given Evans the chance to train with them but the club insisted that no offer was made to the 25-year-old.

Oldham are the third club to turn Evans away after Tranmere opted to not meet with Evans last Thursday to talk about the possibility of him training with them while Sheffield United retracted their offer after supporters, sponsors and patrons — along with over 160,000 people who signed an online petition — made their feelings clear that they were against him returning to the club.

Oldham said: “The board of directors would like to confirm that we will not be extending an invitation for Ched Evans to train with Oldham Athletic nor will we be offering him a contract.”
