Legia Warsaw banner costs £63k in Uefa fine

Legia Warsaw have been fined €80,000 (£63,000) for displaying a giant banner criticising Uefa.

The club revealed that Uefa’s disciplinary panel had cried foul over the protest during last week’s Europa League play-off against Kazakh team Aktobe at a hearing on Thursday.

The stand-sized banner showed a pig standing in front of a Uefa badge with the slogan: “Because football doesn’t matter. Money does.”

Celtic had a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Legia transformed into a 3-0 win after the Polish side fielded an ineligible player for the last few minutes of the second leg, allowing them to advance to the next stage of Champions League qualifying.
